Over the past couple days, Momily and I had been debating whether Mather has added the sign for "hungry". It's not one we've shown her much, mainly using the simpler "to eat" sign (fingers near the mouth!). The sign for hungry is running your finger down along your sternum. Momily has shown it to her a couple times, but it never really took.
So Mather and I were in the Panhandle Playground this morning and having a good time playing in the sand and on the slides. After a little while, she noticed her bag off in one corner and headed over towards it -- repeatedly running her hand up and down her belly as if it were a guitar. When I opened her bag for her, she said "sauce!" and mimed a spooning motion. She was asking for her applesauce! Since I didn't have any, we headed home so she could have her fill. But it's clear she's now added the sign for hungry (or her modified version...).

Bragging Rights
I'd like to take this opportunity to brag about my brilliant child...
Mather can say (within context) the following words:
Chasing (running)
Being chased, caught, and tickled!
Dancing
Kissing
Climbing stairs and play structures
Playing in the bathtub
Sliding
Asking mommy and daddy to read the same book over and over again through a combination of saying "book" and signing "again".
And now, I'd like to captivate you with her cuteness...

Additions from Nanna Julie: she also says blueberry (three syllables with the b's in the right spot), and a consistent vocalization of "raggedy ann" as she drags her from spot to spot. I'm sure she thinks she is saying "raggedy ann". Then there is "wheeeee", and don't forget "eeieeio" as when singing along to old macdonald had a farm - she's always ready with the chorus.
And now, I'd like to captivate you with her cuteness...
Playing "bag lady".
She found her rainhat and a bag of yarn.
She ran around the house in a very joyous mood!

Momily made a hat for Mather from the yarn that was in the bag.
It's a little big but she'll grow into it.

Look at her go!
And look at her curly locks peeking out from under the hat!
The best ride in town!
Her first trips down the concrete slides in Golden Gate Park.
