She first starting doing this during today's morning walk at Crissy Field but has since continued it while awake in her carseat, while being carried around, and even during diaper changes (as seen below!).

I think that you are prematurely coming to the nurture conclusion. I saw no control baby(s). Are you going to try and repeat the results for us w/ a new baby as well?
Interestingly, (some) current nature vs nurture theorizing puts the parental influence about last. Gentics is first, with about 50% of variation attributed to genes. Peer groups are considered to have far more formative power than parents are. These conclusions have been reached by looking at various twin studies as well as adoption studies. Really interesting stuff.
but wouldn't you say that it's sort of a moving feast of effect? first parental influence (til about 10 maybe) then peers, then a blend, and then, alas, through the mid-later adult stages, genetics showing its inevitable infuence?
Anonymous, I don't know. I'm not that familiar with the research. I can see how what you say makes sense, but there are plenty of things that make sense that aren't born out by research.
Not to say that any of this frees papasan and momily from their duties to be perfect parents :)
hint...anonymous is my mom. she refuses to sign her posts.
